From Stumble to Strategy: Failure is Not an Event, it’s a Process


 

Back in the early days when I first started coaching, I encountered something interesting: a client would seem totally fine one day. Then I’d get on the phone with them days later, and it would be a complete one-eighty. They’d be moving in a totally different direction. They’d be aggressive, angry, pushing me out, shutting me out—and next thing I knew, they quit. I couldn’t turn them around.

 

This happened often enough that I knew it was a major concern. That’s when I realized we all have a subconscious “sabotage pattern.” This causes people to sabotage all the good things they do in their life, right before they’re about to have a big breakthrough.

 

Your subconscious mind will literally change what you’re focusing on, so that you sabotage yourself. It will even make you become enemies with—or blame—the people who are working with you to help you get where you want to go. I began to reverse engineer people’s failure so that I could see it coming.

  • Your subconscious mind doesn’t care about the quality of your life—it’s only concerned with keeping you alive and moving the gene pool forward

 

  • Your mind develops and operates all kinds of patterns in your life to keep you alive—it’s programmed like a thermostat; it’s a cybernetic mechanism that keeps you running on autopilot

 

  • How people’s programming keeps them stuck in terrible jobs, relationships, and circumstances their whole life—because certain patterns get entrenched in their mind

 

  • There are only 2 ways to change subconscious programming—through constant spaced repetition, and through a sudden emotional impact

 

  • Your “financial set point” is an income number in your mind that makes it uncomfortable for you to go beyond it

 

  • The moment you start to go beyond your comfort zone, the subconscious mind kicks in and starts creating emotions and ideas about why you should quit on your goal
