Full Throttle Thursday – Hell No, Joe Won’t Go: How Cancel Culture is Like Schoolyard Bullying

The more successful you become, the more you open yourself up to trolls, criticism, and even being canceled. In this age of cancel culture, anyone can find themselves being canceled at any time for any reason. When that happens, it can feel like the whole world is coming after you. It’s intense—but really, it’s just a few people. It usually gets magnified by the media.

Joe Rogan’s audience exploded over the past few years, reaching millions of people on Spotify. The media has tried to cancel him, but he refuses to give in. After he posted an apology on Instagram—Samuel L. Jackson suddenly spoke up about how “comfortable” Rogan seemed to be using a particular racial slur. Once again, the news media has blown this up, as a way to try to bring Rogan down again.

In today’s episode, BT and I discuss:

    • Why I think Samuel L. Jackson’s response to Joe Rogan was ridiculous and probably strategic

    • How cancel culture is no different than schoolyard bullying

    • The way the media uses click bait headlines to overcome a slow news cycle

    • How the news makes money off selling you a story about the destruction of a human being or the potential destruction of a human being

    • How Joe Rogan stood up to cancel culture and became one of the largest voices in the world if not THE largest

There are no perfect people. Everyone makes mistakes. Being criticized is never about you. It’s about the people criticizing you. You just have to stand up, own what you’re doing, and not let yourself be bullied. They can only cancel you if you allow yourself to be canceled.
