Don’t make assumptions. Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness, and drama. With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life. ~Don Miguel Ruiz
Always do your best. Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgement, self-abuse, and regret. ~Don Miguel Ruiz
In this third and final episode of The Four Agreements series, we’re going in depth around assumptions and always doing your best.
In considering assumptions ask yourself this, What do I assume to be true?
How many times do you make assumptions about everything in your world?
We could save ourselves a significant amount of trouble by simply asking for what we want and not assuming anything. Quite simply, life could be so much easier if we just ASKED the questions that came up.
As for always doing your best, that comes naturally when the previous agreements are working together in harmony. If we break even one, the rest topple like a house of cards.
Looking back through my life, it is the mastery or near mastery of each of these agreements that has gotten me where I am today. It doesn’t take long for results to shift when you stay committed to putting these principles in action.
If you desire to implement these Four Agreements, and you start today, you set yourself up to live the life you always wanted. That is the dream that Ruiz wrote about and is something to work toward each and every day.
A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Why not take it?!?
In this episode you’ll learn:
- How the assumptions we make create needless suffering
- Action strengthens your will and establishes lifelong habits
- The best version of yourself resides in the implementation of these Four Agreements

Thanks so much for this particular series of podcasts. I am finding them immensely helpful and always enjoy listening to them. It’s so easy to lose heart because you can feel as if you are standing at the foot of an enormous mountain of self-development but you have to start somewhere, take action and keep on taking action.
Very true Andrea, you have to start somewhere. I did and it changed my life forever. Here’s to always moving forward!
