The sales conversation you’re losing right now might already be over before you even pick up the phone. That’s the truth Steph Tuss and I open up in this new series on sales blind spots — the subconscious patterns behind every sales conversation you’re losing without knowing why. If a sale keeps slipping away, you’re not bad at sales. You just can’t see what’s right in front of you yet, and once you can, everything changes.
Sales Conversation You’re Losing: Where It Actually Starts
Most people blame price or timing when a sale falls apart. After thirty-five years combined working with small business owners, Steph and I can tell you that’s rarely the real reason. Sales isn’t something you do to someone. It’s something you do for someone. A sales conversation exists to bring clarity to a confused mind. When a blind spot runs quietly underneath the surface, that clarity never arrives. Your prospect walks away confused. You walk away wondering what happened. Nothing was wrong with the lead. The sales conversation you’re losing was lost the moment clarity disappeared.
Why Sales Blind Spots Hide the Real Reason You Lose Sales
A blind spot works like the blind spot in your eye. Your brain fills the gap with what it expects, not what’s actually there. In conversation, that shows up as half-listening. You hear your prospect, but part of your mind is rehearsing your next line, or worrying whether they’ll like you. Meanwhile they’re handing you the exact information you need, and you miss it. I learned this from my own coach in a single sentence that changed my career. Sales is something you do for someone, not to someone. That one shift is often exactly why the sales conversation you’re losing turns around.
Sales Conversation You’re Losing: The Four Patterns Behind It
Steph and I sort these patterns into four categories. The reluctant seller avoids selling and quits at the first no. Next is the people pleaser, who needs to be liked, so they cushion the price and sell from guilt. Then there’s the conveyancer, who piles on logic and pushes instead of leading. And finally, the catalyst has nearly broken free but still gets pulled back occasionally. Almost nobody fits neatly into just one. Most of us carry a little of each, stacked on top of one another. That stacking is usually where the sales conversation you’re losing actually gets decided.
What Changes Once You Stop Losing the Sale Before It Starts
Once you can see your blind spot, everything shifts, because awareness always comes first. Over the next four episodes, Steph and I walk through each pattern in depth, with specific ways to begin rewiring it. We also built something called the Blind Spot Detector. It’s a short set of questions that shows you exactly where the sales conversation you’re losing keeps breaking down, plus a seven-day plan to start shifting it. That way, the same sales conversation you’re losing today doesn’t repeat next quarter.
If a sale has slipped away and you couldn’t explain why, this series is where that finally makes sense. Join Steph and me as we keep working through the sales conversation you’re losing, one pattern at a time.
HERE’S THE TRUTH: YOUR BUSINESS ISN’T BROKEN. YOUR MINDSET IS.
You’ve built something real. You’ve got clients, revenue, maybe even a team. But every morning, you wake up feeling like you’re pushing a boulder uphill — working harder for smaller wins, watching others leap ahead while you grind in place.
This September, I’m opening the doors to The Elite Mind, a proven daily practice that rewires the mental patterns keeping you stuck in the feast-or-famine cycle, and transforms your relationship with success from the inside out.
We’ll strip away the self-sabotage, the fear of your own potential, and the unconscious limits you’ve accepted as “just how business is.” You’ll discover why strategy alone never works (and what actually does), and walk away with the mental framework that separates those who sustain success from those who chase it forever.
