business set point — The Successful Mind Podcast Episode 752

Break Your Business Set Point: Stop People Pleasing

If you keep hitting a business set point, the work doesn’t start in your business. It starts in how you see yourself. I’ve coached thousands of people, and almost every stall comes back to the same root cause: an old, unconscious need for other people’s approval.

Business Set Point: Where It Actually Starts

That need is programmed into you from birth. As an infant, rejection genuinely meant death, so you learned fast that survival depended on someone else meeting your needs. Somewhere along the way, love got separated from approval, and you started chasing approval instead. Almost nobody is raised being taught to love themselves, so almost everybody grows up quietly seeking it from someone else, a parent, a mentor, a customer, a spouse. People pleasing is that pattern in action, and it behaves exactly like an addiction. You won’t know the confidence of loving yourself until you get your hook out of other people.

Stop Reacting To Problems And Start Leading With Direction

The second shift matters just as much. Most people let whatever problem pops up that day run their business. That’s reactive. The alternative is holding a clear picture of where you’re going and generating challenges that move you toward it on purpose. When a problem has repeated for a week, a month, a year, that’s not bad luck. That’s a business set point, a ceiling you’ve unconsciously agreed to tolerate. The moment you recognize it, it should become intolerable. Hire the person before you’re sure you can afford them. Fix the process instead of patching it again. Decide you’re done, and mean it.

Controlling Your Environment Changes What You’re Capable Of

You will always be a product of your environment if you don’t deliberately control it. That means being around people already winning in the direction you’re headed, not just people who are comfortable to be around. It means what you read, watch, and listen to in your downtime. It means noticing what you’ve been tolerating simply because it’s familiar. Change what surrounds you, and the problems you face start to change too, on purpose, in your favor. You’re mastering as you grow, so what felt impossible last year stops being a big deal once you’ve broken through it.

Business Set Point: The Real Cost Of Staying Stuck

Here’s the part people miss. You can’t fix a set point at the level it shows up. If your car needs a new alternator this week and new brakes next month, you don’t keep patching it forever, you replace the car. The same is true here. The recurring problem isn’t the real problem. It’s a symptom of the set point underneath it, rooted in that same old need for approval. Detaching from that need is the hardest part of this whole process, and also the most valuable. You’re allowed to put your own well-being first, without qualifying it.

None of this happens overnight, and it isn’t a small adjustment. It’s a real, permanent change in who you’re being every day, and it’s exactly what I unpack further on this episode.

YOU KNOW YOU SHOULD BE CLOSING MORE SALES…

SO WHY DO TOO MANY OF YOUR CONVERSATIONS STILL END WITH “I NEED TO THINK ABOUT IT”?

You can have a great offer, know you can help the person sitting across from you, and still lose the sale because you can’t see where your own thinking is taking you out of the conversation.

That’s your Sales Blind Spot. It can show up when you hesitate to ask for the sale, back off when you hear an objection, over-explain or try to convince, or miss what the prospect is really telling you.

That’s what we’ll work on at The Elite Mind: Sales Accelerator in Charlotte, November 10–11. Over two focused days, you’ll learn how to lead when the conversation gets uncomfortable, ask the right questions that bring the truth to the surface, handle objections without freezing or over-explaining, and guide a prospect to a clear decision without pushing, chasing, or forcing the sale.
